The Festival of Trees
When: Saturday, December 3, 2011- 6 pm
Where: The New London Elks -81 Washington Street, New London, Connecticut
The Festivals of Trees is an event held for the past eight years by the Downtown New London Association (DNLA) to help raise money for New London Community Meal Center for needy families during the holiday season.
Here’s how it works: The DNLA provides live Christmas trees. On November 29th through the December 2th, companies and local organizations decorate the trees according to their chosen theme. Some themes from last year included: lighthouse, Toy, Poinsettia and an Irish tree. Then on December 5, 2011 we auction the decorated trees to the highest bidder. The DNLA will deliver the decorated Christmas trees to the winning bidders’ homes the next day.
Last year we raised $3,710.00. Proceeds from the auction were donated to the New London Community Meal Center and were used to provide holiday meals to local families. We also work with Covent Shelter and donate decorated trees to families who can’t afford to buy and decorate one.
